1. Main problems and annoyances you encounter when using ActionApps
Main problems (ordered by importance) seems to be:
- Poor functioning of link administration (I hope Honza Malik is just finishing much better version)
- Poor documentation
- A bit difficult creation of discussions, limited possibilities of their formatting
- Limited possibilities of searching and replacing text (e. g. I need to change some URL address in a text area in hundreds of articles)
- Difficult and almost unreadable HTML code of a form for anonymous posting of articles
- I did not manage to produce functioning version of RSS with rss view (I had to use classic view instead]
2. Features suggested for future development versions of ActionApps
At first, I would welcome repairs or improvings concerning items mentioned above.
Further I would welcome:
In link administration:
- E-mail alerts (alerts for new proposals and proposals of change)
- Improved control of wrong links (bad URLs, no more existing pages and so on). It works quite well but for some sites it seems to give false results.
- Better automatic e-mail communication with "anonymous" (i. e. non-administrators) users proposing new pages and changes (it works fine in almost any other link catalogue)
Polls - we use some software but with very limited possibilities. It would be great if polls could become part of AA.
Support for wap. I tried to make some wap pages. There is a problem: I need wap page to have a limited size (in bytes) to be displayed correctly on older mobile phones. But I need to display news articles of unknown and probably bigger size. I need something to divide the article into parts of defined size.
More comprehensive banner administration. We use AA for displaying banners on our pages. It would be great if it could produce some statistics for advertisers (click rate and so on).
Probably I forgot something important but I hope developers will have something to do for a while to satisfy my wishes :-)
3. Comments About Usablility
I think documentation can be an important obstacle in using AA.
I think it needs on-line documentation offering systematic explanation of managing slices (I cannot comment documentation concerning installation of AA). There is something in .doc format from April 2002 - it is quite old and not very comprehensive I think.
The ideal "new documentation" for slice administrators should be written in more simple language than current FAQs and possibly available in national languages. It should be web-based (no .doc). Maybe - it is just an idea - to use some wiki software for it?
